Equality in Meat Terms (7)

This semester I have written three important papers, all of which I have been very pleased with. Writing is a hobby and enjoyment of mine, so this comes as no surprise. However, I have found turning to the writing lab for help one of my best resources. The process of receiving help or assistance of any kind is always humbling and as a result growth is inevitable. As I further my writing career in college and learn more about language and literature I know that asking for feedback and verbalizing questioning will be a great asset to my growth.

In my most recent paper, “Equality in Meat Terms” previous knowledge of rhetorical analysis has been of great benefit. I enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone to analyze a speech many are unfamiliar with. The Prime Rib of America speech given by Lady Gaga in 2010 was influential to the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." One aspect of this speech that initially peaked my interest is it's controversy. Brigham Young University is probably one of the most conservative campuses in the nation, but whether or not my chosen speech is supported by popularity in "Happy Valley" should not be a deterrent for a well written analysis.

As a writer, and someone who looks to influence others on a small and large scale, I feel that educating others on current events is beneficial for the well-being of us all. Through analysis, readers choose to be informed and in turn form their own opinions. These opinions can then help educate others if presented in correct contexts and therefore continue the change of educating more and more people. After all:

"Knowledge is power." -Sir Francis Bacon
